C2: 1963 - 1967 STING RAY. Inspired by the profile of a shark he caught while deep sea fishing, Bill Mitchell and his design team developed the sleek Sting Ray racing car in 1958. Five years later, they transformed it into one of the most strikingly styled production sports cars of all time.
The 1963 coupe version had a tapered boat-tail back with the now classic split rear window. The very next year the split window was made into a single window for better visability. Retractable headlights were also a key exterior feature and remained on Corvettes until 2005.
Zora Arkus-Duntov, Corvette's legendary chief engineer once said, "For the first time I now have a Corvette I can be proud to drive in Europe". The 1967 Corvette, the last of the C2 Sting Ray series, is considered by many collectors to be the best Corvette of all time.
